Perking Up Winter Skin

November 5, 2015

When the weather gets colder, I find my skin gets dull and prone to small bumpy spots. I think the lack of vitamin D my skin normally gets from the sun in summer plays a big part in this. As well as the central heating and frosty cold windy weather.

I have recently been suffering from small breakouts around my nose and chin. As well as red patches and a dull complexion. So after a little research, I bought a couple of new products to add into my routine and I have been very happy and surprised at how quickly they worked.

New Products
My new problem solvers

My routine :

  • One of the following cleansers – Pixi Clay Cleanser; The Organic Pharmacy Carrot Butter or Ole Hendrickson Truth Cleanser

  • Pixi Glow Pads – 3 times a week. Cane & Austin Retexturising Pads all other times

  • Serozinc Spray

  • Darphin Hydraskin Serum

  • One pump of Marula Oil by African Botanics mixed with Darphin Skin Matt Lotion

In the evenings instead of the facial oil and skin matt lotion I used ‘Darphin Aromatic Purifying Balm’. I’ve read many raving reviews about this and as it’s directed at solving the problems I had it seemed like a good option. Don’t you just love it when a product lives up to your expectations?! It really helped and after two days of use the bumps were gone. I did have the discolouration but that disappeared in a few more days.

The balm has a mixture of 12 plant oils, including:

  • Sage Oil
  • Nutmeg Kernel Oil
  • Tea Tree Oil
  • Thyme Oil
  • Grapefruit Oil
  • Rosewood Oil

They are all good for de-congesting and balancing the skin. The product contains no mineral oil, is non-pore clogging as well as anti-bacterial. Although its expensive £40 for 15ml (I know that seems crazy) you really only need a tiny amount and it really has worked for me.

Going back to the Pixi Glow Pads these are fairly new and after the huge success of their Glow Tonic I had to give them a try.

To begin with I wasn’t keen they made my skin itch, which can be a common occurrence with glycolic acid. After a quick tweet to Petra at PixiBeauty she suggested to remove it quicker than the recommended 2 minutes. I was using them every day so after a bit of online research I changed that to 3 times a week. This stopped the itching and my skin has been looking really bright and clear.

The whole Pixi Beauty skincare range has really impressed me. I have been used the clay cleanser before using the glow pads which really helps brighten my skins overall complexion. I also introduced the makeup fixing spray into my stash. It’s is lovely at any time of day to set and refresh my makeup without making my skin appear oily.

As for the Darphin skinmatt lotion and hydraskin serum, both of which are really nice to use smell lovely. I do think I prefer the Vichy thermal hydration serum over Darphins’ its half the price and I noticed my pores seemed less visible when I used it.

The skin matt lotion is lovely, light yet hydrating and gives a satin finish to the skin. I mix one pump with my marula facial oil and it really helps to keep my skin clear.

If your skin needs a helping hand these colder months then I would definitely recommend these products and brands I’ve been really happy with the results.
